Looks

Universe Big Screen comes with three looks: Universe, the default, then Switch 2 and PS5. They share your library and your settings, and differ in where things are.

The Universe look's home

Dark, with the game’s art behind everything: tabs along the top, a hint bar along the bottom and the dock over a running game. The rest of these pages describe this look.

The Switch 2 look

A light look after the Switch 2 HOME menu: a row of games over a bar of round buttons.

  • All Software lists every game, with sorting, search and Groups for your favourites.
  • Settings is System Settings. Downloads is Updates there, Network is Internet and Storage is Data Management. Stores install from Install on the HOME bar.
  • Updates also holds Game updates: the games you update yourself, and behind Show the games Universe can’t check the ones to confirm.
  • Screenshots and recordings are in Album, the journal in News.
  • Start on a game opens Software Options, with its settings, data, artwork and journal.
  • There’s no dock. HOME over a game flips to the HOME menu and back, and on the running game’s tile X closes it.
  • Controllers, on the HOME bar, reconnects and pairs your pads.
The PS5 look

After the PS5 home screen: two tabs, Games and Media, and a row of tiles over the focused game’s hero and Game Hub.

  • Search, Settings and Power are icons in the top bar. Downloads is Updates in Settings, and Bluetooth is Accessories.
  • Updates also holds Game updates: the games you update yourself, and behind Show the Games Universe Can’t Check the ones to confirm.
  • Game Library, at the end of the row, sorts and filters your games. The Store tile installs them.
  • HOME over a game opens the Control Center, with the game, screenshots, controllers, performance, sound and power. Its Controller Settings opens the Controllers page.
  • Achievements are trophies, and most screens show no button hints.
  • It asks before quitting Universe with a game running.

Settings › Appearance › Theme lists the three looks, then the themes you installed. The switch is live, with no restart. In the Switch 2 and PS5 looks, Appearance shows each look as a row to pick.

Settings, Appearance: the look, its sounds and the startup animation

A full-screen start opens on the Universe mark, with a chime. Any button skips it, and Settings › Appearance › Startup animation turns it off.

A theme is a look someone else made, installed from Get more… in Appearance. Themes covers them, and how to get back to the Universe look when one leaves you stuck.

The Switch 2 and PS5 looks follow those consoles’ home screens. Universe is not affiliated with Nintendo or Sony. Nintendo Switch is a trademark of Nintendo; PlayStation and PS5 are trademarks of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
