Emulators & Proton

Settings › Emulators & Proton lists the runners your games start through, such as Proton and the emulators, with the builds and tools Universe can download for them. The sidebar entry counts the updates and installs on offer.

Settings, Emulators & Proton: the runners found, the ones Universe can install, and the tools

Its cards:

  1. The runners on this machine, the one with the most games first, each naming the build it uses.
  2. Not installed: the runners Universe can download, the ones a game waits on first.
  3. No download: runners to install from your distribution.
  4. Tools: the tools Universe fetches, such as gogdl and ludusavi, and gamescope, MangoHud and gpu-screen-recorder from your system.

A tag marks a row that wants attention: Needed (a game waits on it), Install …, Update … or Updated.

A (Open) on a runner opens its page, with its program, its builds, the defaults for its games and its games (Runners). A (Options) on a build or a tool offers what applies: Install …, Update to …, Use …, Follow the newest …, Roll back …, Install another version…, Remove … or Uninstall. An install or a removal asks first.

X (Refresh) fetches the list of builds again, and Y (Hide progress) hides an install’s progress bar while it goes on.

The Switch 2 and PS5 looks swap X and Y here: see Looks.
