Artwork

Every game has six pictures: a Box front, a Square, a Banner, a Background, a Logo and a Wallpaper, the 16:9 picture that fills the launch screen. Universe fetches them when a game comes in, from the game’s store, Steam, GOG GamesDB, libretro for an emulated game, and SteamGridDB once you add a key. The game’s description and store screenshots come with them. A game that never had them fetched, such as one imported by an older version, gets them the next time Universe starts, and keeps the pictures it already has. A picture you pick always shows over the fetched one.

Settings › Artwork shows every game’s pictures in one grid. Fetch missing art, Up from the first row, fills every game’s empty pictures and keeps your picks.

Settings, Artwork: the art each game is missing, and Fetch missing art

The game menu (Start on a game) › Manage › Artwork shows the game’s six pictures, each with where it shows. A on one opens its candidates from every source, and A on a candidate (Use this) makes it your pick.

Start there opens:

  • Fetch missing art, for this game’s empty pictures;
  • Use a file…, for an image of your own;
  • Back to default (X), which drops your pick;
  • Wrong game? (Y), when the art is another game’s.

Wrong game? searches for the game’s title. A (Use this game) takes a result, and Y (Another name) searches under another name. The pictures already fetched stay until you pick each one again.

A key of your own from steamgriddb.com adds SteamGridDB’s community art to the candidates. Enter it in Settings › Game defaults › API keys, shown with Y, or from the last cell of a game’s candidates. Prefer SteamGridDB art, next to the key, fills each picture from SteamGridDB first.
